About Ray Ray's Hog Pit Franklinton
It’s not in the sauce — it’s in your soul. That’s what sets Ray Ray’s Hog Pit apart. You can’t rush barbecue. Select cuts of pork, beef, and chicken are dry rubbed and cooked low and slow for the hint of hickory and honesty of oak that only 12 to 16 hours in a hardwood smoker can create. Traditional and original sauces — sweet and savory, jalapeño to habanero.

Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.
Hours are published for 5 days a week. Typical hours are 11 am–8:30 pm. It is closed on Monday, Tuesday. Columbus is in Ohio, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Columbus follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

For my fellow vegetarians who don’t get to choose where dinner is - they have some really solid options here. I live nearby and have been here quite a bit. The Mac & Cheese is great, some cayenne and delicious creamy/sticky texture 👀 The cauliflower “burnt ends” are my favorite, they toss the cauliflower pieces in a medium-spicy sauce that really sings with the pickled onions on top. I don’t care too much for the sandwich version of this and love it just plain (can get 1/4 lb, 1/2 lb, etc). The fries are so great - split these with a friend, they give you a solid amount! Lastly, the cole slaw is what it is..could use some salt, otherwise tastes good with all the celery seeds. We don’t always get to pick where to eat dinner, but when it’s Ray Ray’s, you’re not SOL! Highly recommend.

Ty was fantastic. He let me watch him in his process of smoking the jerk chicken thighs. Answered my questions about his process. Gave me a sample of the jerk sauce. Allowed me to wait for the ones he had just put in the smoker. He was very nice and respectful to a homeless gentleman and he didn’t do it because I was standing there. The chicken was beyond delicious. So tender. Just enough spice for me. The pickled red onions added something extra too, I used it on every other bite.

I loved Ray Rays back when it was basically the Clintonville food truck. Ever since they expanded it has been very hit or miss across locations. This location in particular has been more miss than hit. The brisket we had last from them was straight up tough. Couldn't cut it with a fork, had to pull hard at one end when biting to get it off kinda tough. Ended up feeding it to the dog. Whoof.

Today I met Cam and Ty, those two guys are amazing! They helped me pick out the best menu items to introduce me to Ohio barbecue. I got to say that this was the best brisket, the best collard greens, the best Mac n Cheese, and the BEST cornbread cobbler I ever had! I only list those because that’s all I could fit in my gut! I am making a promise to myself to return to this state SOLELY so I can try the rest of their menu. Thanks Cam and Ty, you guys are the coolest and imma call it now: Ray Rays 10th straight win for BEST barbecue in Ohio! Good luck, gentlemen!
